Scattered Ashes

How many of you know that song, “Once and For All” by Lauren Daigle? It’s one of my favorites right now as I find the lyrics so meaningful. The stanza that says…

“God I give You all I can today
These scattered ashes that I hid away
I lay them all at Your feet”srlmvwkvfjm-jacob-meyer

In this season of motherhood, I often feel like I don’t have much left to give. I feel tapped out…a lot. Is there such a thing as tag team parenting (with other adults aside from your spouse)? Can I tag you to come step in and take over for a moment so I can catch my breath?

Maybe the ideology of sitting down to enjoy a cup of  warm ( I won’t say hot because I want to be realistic here) coffee, spend time in the Word at 5 am before the kiddos wake (what I like to call the butt crack of dawn) is just a fairy tale in your world.  I know it is in mine.

Maybe I’ve been changing diapers for far too long and that’s why I refer to the early morning in such “crass” terms because I know shortly following the butt crack of dawn, comes a full moon. And not the kind you “ooooh” and “ahhh” over because it’s so pretty it makes you want to take a photo to capture the moment. It’s more of the type involving baby wipes, clothespin on the nose, opening all the windows even in the dead of winter, and febreeze!  Sorry, got sidetracked there. As you can see it’s hard for my brain to focus for more than 30 seconds at a time these days. So, clearly, I feel that I don’t have much to give!

Maybe all you can give is just getting up in the morning to face another day. Maybe you are in a season where you can’t see past the end of your nose. A single verse written on an index card hanging by your kitchen sink, bathroom mirror, or refrigerator; or listening to worship music is all you have in you for today (after day after day) for this season.

Give what you can to Jesus for THIS day, NO GUILT.

Don’t think that what you bring before Him, that what you lay at His feet is not enough. No matter how big or how small. It is enough for THIS day. It is enough for Him. He just wants to be with you.

He will meet you where you are at and it will be glorious.

There is a time and a season for everything. As an exhausted, busy mother trying to keep her home in order, her children alive and somewhat decent smelling, her marriage from taking a back seat, not to mention if you work (in or outside of the home), life is exhausting. Love is exhausting. Give what you can, know it’s a season and know that you are doing it well.

Lay it down.
